The Contemporary Holocaust Education Foundation (CHEF) has chosen its name for a specific purpose. The Foundation attempts to make the history of the Holocaust relevant to contemporary society and to young people today.

This implies taking the experiences of young people seriously and working with them to explore the lessons of the past and to take a close look at today's work. The emphasis in all of our work is on trying to better understand the decisions that people make, especially young people, when confronted with human rights violations and injustice. What choices do we make when we come face to face with racism and racists, with bigotry and bigots? How do we resolve the dilemmas we often face when we are called upon to make a choice?

CHEF does not pretend to have answers to the many questions relating to issues of tolerance and intolerance. Our educational approach, reflected in this website and our educational materials, promotes critical thinking about such issues and a challenge not to seek simple and convenient answers to complicated issues.
